Both are films applied over your factory paint, but they do opposite jobs. Paint protection film (PPF) is clear — it keeps the color you already have and takes the hits, a thick self-healing urethane layer that absorbs rock chips, scratches and road debris. A vinyl wrap is opaque — it changes the color and finish (satin, matte, gloss, color-shift), and while it shields the paint from light wear, it isn't built to stop a rock chip. Simple way to decide: keeping the look and protecting it points to PPF, changing the look points to a wrap. Both go over the factory paint and both come off when you want.
